Este 14 de enero se dieron a conocer en vivo los nominados a la 88va edición de los Premios Oscar, otorgados por la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Estados Unidos (AMPAS) a lo mejor del cine durante 2015, y fueron anunciados por el presidente de la Academia Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Guillermo del Toro, John Krasinski y Ang Lee.
La ceremonia de premiación de las 24 categorías tendrá lugar el 28 de febrero de 2016 en el Teatro Dolby, en Hollywood, Los Ángeles, a las 8:30 p.m. hora del Este de los Estados Unidos y será televisada en los Estados Unidos por ABC, será producida por David Hill y Reginald Hudlin.
El actor Chris Rock será el anfitrión de la gala por segunda ocasión, siendo la primera la 77a edición en 2005.
Como resumen de los más relevante, The Revenant recibió 12 nominaciones y Mad Max: Fury Road 10, The Martian 7, Bridge of Spies, Carol y Spotlight 6, y The Big Short y Star Wars: The Force Awakens 5.
Anteriormente, el 14 de noviembre de 2015, se entregaron los Oscar Honoríficos a Spike Lee y Gena Rowlands, así como el Premio Humanitario Jean Hersholt a Debbie Reynolds, durante la 7ma Junta Anual de Gobernadores de la AMPAS, en el Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center.
